Chore List: Reboot!

Right now, I don’t have an updated version of the backlog. I’ll get that and paste it in, after I create this. My new plan is to come up with all the things I want to do on Monday (Yes, I’m late. Tell my boss! Oh — wait — that’s me. . .) Having not done that on Monday, here’s this week’s list:

  1. Work on the attic. Thurs. 12/7 4 p.m.
  2. Clear the fridge. Done Tues.
  3. Send the family pics, etc. to the cousin and school 2/27 who want them.
  4. Cull the veggie seeds and figure out what to order  for next year. (date unknown)
  5. Make the first patterns for the chair reupolstery effort.
  6. (fill in) Deal with the loose Christmas stuff in the living room.Weds. 1 p.m.
  7. Work on the back storage.
  8. Make granola Tues.1 p.m.
  9. Oil the sharpening stones. I know I did this, no idea what date. 2/10/18
  10. Figure out the “decoration” for this year’s Christmas Bread. Some time last week of Nov. although they haven’t been put together, yet.
  11. Put up the new pantry labels. Label file made, but can’t be printed. Waiting on piece which is supposed to arrive today. . . Fri. 12/8, Printed. Need to make some adjustments. Tomorrow! (12/9)
  12. (fill in) Clean off the old computer, as something needs to be put on top of it. (added Tues. 12/5 1 p.m.) 12/8
  13. Clean your car. Was done Mon.12/11, car went to the shop Tues. for snow tires.
  14. Design the pattern for the hearth rug.
  15. Measure some area for the “house book.”
  16. Research the newspaper job idea.
  17. Get the floor waxer into the attic.
  18. Data entry on the accounting or food planning idea.
  19. Work on the new food inventory/planning idea.
  20. Swim, at least once and pick up your swim ticket.
  21. (fill in)Cull napkin collection so that it fits the storage! Thurs. 12/7 3:30p.m.
  22. Eliminate more duplicates.
  23. Get the junk OUT of at least one defined place.
  24. Open the Christmas trunk, see if you want to keep it all? I did this 12/2017, don’t know the date.
  25. Take more to the booth, as most of the high-end pieces have sold. Sat. 12/9
  26. (fill in) Get the accounting up to date, so you haven’t got a panic for the taxes! (MONTH: 1, 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12)

Backlog:

  • Get some of the cleaned laundry hung up which isn’t.
  • Do a short inventory of the meat in the big freezer. (Probably something like 1 chicken, 3 lbs ground round, and 1 other package of mixed chicken parts. . . but I don’t know exactly!)
  • Get the rice in one place, instead of 2-3, as it is now.
  • Clean, wax, organize the snow scoop, shovels, etc.Not sure when this got done, but it is. Christmas 2017
  • Use the commercial napkins for their intended craft, or get rid of them! Pulled from the 2 places where they were stored.
  • Get the odd pieces of insulation into the basement.
  • Check the water heater’s filter, does it need to be cleaned?
  • Sand some of the marks from the floor, at the edges.
  • Get the island/kitchen side cleared.Mon. 12/4
  • Update linked in.
  • Work on the house binder.  Done in Jan. 2018
  • Clean out the small ice box.
  • (fill in)Put laundry away.
  • Dust the electronics in the office. Weds. evening.
  • Eat the last watermelon.
  • Get the salt & sand next to the front door. Not sure when this got done, but it is. Christmas 2017
  • Clean the couch.
  • Get the coffee ad framed.
  • Clean part of the upstairs that hasn’t been touched in some time. Bath closet, demo’ed, spackled as required, primed, and painted! 1-2/2018
  • Put away the canning supplies if not in use.
  • Put up the 3 missing hurricane clips
  • Put the grill away. Can’t be done; it’s frozen in a snow bank, what I was trying to avoid, alas!
  • Get the supplies for the knitted pillow all in one place so you can finish it! Done sometime early Dec. forgot to note it!
  • Clean the office chairs.
  • Find a place to put away the dehydrator racks and do so when appropriate.
  • Recaulk the bathroom as needed.
  • Figure out a new way/place to store the yarn and put it away.
  • Look at the stored snow tires. Need new ones? In the budget?12/11
  • Find a new home for the cat towel basket. (Old towels used for car washing, spill clean up, whatever!)

    Chores on hold or in process, for whatever reason

Make up/try the Naval Academy brass polish. Deferred because I have THREE containers of general metal polish. I want to use up at least one of those before I make up more. I sure don’t need 4!!! Down to one container 12/7/17, when that is low/out, I will make up the Naval Academy polish, if I can find the recipe again!

Go thru the record collection, cull. First part done. Moving to in-process 10/27, 2nd piece done 11/2, 3rd 11/21, forgot to note it! Completed 12/24/17!

Wash the net curtains. First pair pulled from over the dry stores 4:30. Washed Tues. 10/24 a.m. One pair to go. Two pairs to go.

Cull books from one “holding pattern” bookcases. Either they’re out or they stay!, in process Thurs. a.m. (I did the 1st shelf.)

Put family photos in the album. Can’t be done. Photos located, album missing!

Clean off DH’s desk. This is going to be delayed until he and I catch up. I pulled everything from the top drawer on his side of the dresser, we’re still going through all of that.

6/35 or 17.1%

 

Wednesday’s & Thursday’s 5, backlog, etc.

I was right; I shouldn’t feel virtuous. Between doing what I did: going to the dump, the hardware store, packing DH’s car to go to the dump the second time (which he did), going to the thrift shop to drop off goods to consign/get $ from the last time, tutoring my student, etc. I did NOT get Wednesday’s list done, much less posted.

Me bad.

However, here it is, along with today’s. And there are some things which have been removed from the backlog as they were done. Nothing significant perhaps, but just the same, they’re gone.

  1. Dust the cuprack.
  2. Get some of the cleaned laundry hung up which isn’t.

  • Make room with the cold cereal for the hot cereal to go too.
  • Sew the area rugs in the pantry together.Tues. 11/7 2:15 p.m.
  • Get the island/kitchen side cleared.
  • Update linked in.
  • (fill in) Send checks to publisher and BIL.
  • (fill in) Finish the freezer/fridge cleaning. More done, but not complete. 7:00 p.m. Move to on-going.
  • Work on the house binder.
  • Clean out the small ice box.
  • Get through the last of the tomatillos.
  • (fill in) Get things put away in attic which need to go there and pull something out which needs to go elsewhere. Sat. pulled something out.
  • (fill in)Put laundry away.
  • Clean the oven, so it’s clean before Thanksgiving!
  • Dust the electronics in the office.
  • Eat the last watermelon.
  • Cull or add to the candle collection, as needed.
  • Get the mittens, etc. (winter gear) out of the attic and swap in the summer bill caps, etc.
  • Get the salt & sand next to the front door.

  • Figure out a new way/place to store the yarn and put it away.

  • Examine winter coats for flaws, etc.

    Chores on hold or in process, for whatever reason:

    Pick up the yard, put more items away for winter. 11/3 Chairs put away, hoses, hose table. (All need to be covered.) Also not-so-great paint in the shed. Raked around the house, or most of it. (Need to pick up leaf piles.)

Wednesday’s Five and. . .

None of these got done today!

Two items off the backlog were done in the past 24 hours, but that’s it. Not likely to be done tomorrow either, it’s farm/market day and I plan to go to the antique store in the morning as I haven’t been there since the weekend. We have a cabinet swap to do as well tomorrow a.m.

  1. Go through the stored overflow china: clean and cull.
  2. Put away everything in the hall which is out of place.
  3. Dry the mint/lemon balm.
  4. Put up the 3 missing hurricane clips
  5. Replace the saved emergency water supply. (I’d deliberately used the water this summer.)

Put the tile in the basement. (I recently acquired a LOT of mosaic tiles.)

Backlog:

  • Get the ladders put away for the season.
  • Clean the vinyl flooring strip in the sunroom.
  • Get the gifts sent.
  • Clean two shelves of the bookcases in the office.
  • Wash the rug which had been in the laundry and put it back.
  • Get the supplies for the knitted pillow all in one place so you can finish it!
  • Get the rest of the better paint into the attic.
  • Clean the office chairs.
  • Find a place to put away the dehydrator racks and do so when appropriate.
  • Use up the ice cream base in the freezer.
  • Go thru the record collection, cull.
  • Put garden hoses away for winter.
  • Recaulk the bathroom as needed.
  • Figure out a new way/place to store the yarn and put it away.
  • Look at the stored snow tires. Need new ones? In the budget?
  • Make up/try the Naval Academy brass polish.

  • Put ice scrapers in the cars, examine and see if they need replacement?

Sweep the decks Tues. 1 p.m. , porch & entry (fill in). Because it’s fall, I’m not sure you could tell that I swept the decks at all, however, I did do it! It’s raining (Tues – Weds.)

Thurs. 10/5 5 a day and backlog

 

Today’s 5:

  1. Put some baking soda/vinegar down the kitchen sink, bathroom sink and tub drains to help them flow more easily. Fri. 9:15 a.m.
  2. Put ice scrapers in the cars, examine and see if they need replacement?
  3. Go through the secondary spice rack, clean, cull, and replace as needed.Fri. 11:00 a.m.
  4. Ship the box to the BIL, make up more boxes of things which should be shipped and get them sent!
  5. Do something I think needs doing, whatever it is and note it here. In doing the bathroom drain, the popup assembly finally bit the dust. So, the unknown job has become to replace the popup drain mechanism! Fri. 9:15 a.m.Fri 10:30 a.m.

 

Backlog from Weds.

  • Organize/Cull the cleaning products
  • Finish the cleanup around the wood stove, supplies & equipment.Fri. 10 a.m.

The backlog from Tuesday:

  • Get lumber stored correctly for winter, where storage is available.
  • Clean the quarry tile in the sunroom.

Backlog from Monday:

  • Clear stuff from my car and run a vac through at least part of it!
  • Work on the fabric storage again: cull and neaten.
  • Move the paint as DH and I discussed.
  • Clean out the underdeck storage.

 

 

Weekend Catch-Up, 6 Items

Here’s what’s left that I should have done this week:

  1. Tidy needlework supplies and equipment.11:30 Saturday
  2. Put away summer weight coats.7 p.m. Saturday
  3. Deal with mail.7:30 p.m. Saturday
  4. Work on the wood piles (also on the to do list).
  5. Update grain storage: review/cull, clean containers, etc. A tiny piece of this was done as part of clearing the kitchen counter. Weds. 10 a.m. More of this was done Saturday evening, 7:45 p.m. The job is too involved to do really quickly.
  6. Work on the house notebook. 11:00 a.m Saturday

I’m busy tomorrow, so these all have to happen today (Saturday).

Also on the list is the usual weekend chores: dump, laundry, etc.

Friday’s Five, Actually, It’s 12!

Here’s my new list of things to do today:

  1. Tidy needlework supplies and equipment.
  2. Find a new home for the puzzles (displaced when the Hoosier was sent for sale). Done 6:00 p.m.
  3. Put away summer weight coats. (It’s the first day of fall, yes?)
  4. Dust a shelf in the office.10:47 a.m.
  5. Box  yard sale items up for the last sale or put in the dump bin (to donate).11:30 a.m.

What’s left from earlier this week:

  1. Deal with mail
  2. Work on the wood piles (also on the to do list).
  3. Update grain storage: review/cull, clean containers, etc. A tiny piece of this was done as part of clearing the kitchen counter. Weds. 10 a.m.
  4. Prep for the Christmas ornaments I’m making. Finished Friday. Now all I have to do is finalize the assembly!
  5. Dust the stained glass. Done 11:40 Friday
  6. Finish the salsa started Thursday.It was finished, except a small amount needed a container. Done! Friday 11:14
  7. Work on the house notebook.

 

 

 

 

Thursday’s Five, no Eleven

Here’s what’s outstanding from earlier in the week: (I had forgotten the last two when I made this list, but did the vacuuming and couldn’t find it on the list, and searched til I tracked it down. I had dropped two items from Monday’s list, the last two just below.)

  1. Deal with mail
  2. Work on the wood piles (also on the to do list).
  3. Update grain storage: review/cull, clean containers, etc. A tiny piece of this was done as part of clearing the kitchen counter. Weds. 10 a.m.
  4. Prep for the Christmas ornaments I’m making. Started Friday 10:15, requires more work than I thought!
  5. Finish the cull/storage of food from last week’s farm trip.  Finished: onions and tomatoes Wednesday. Peppers and tomatillos finished Thursday a.m.
  6. Vac. under the bed. Done Thursday 8:11 p.m.
  7. Dust the stained glass.

Of these, the most time-sensitive is dealing with the food. If I start a large batch of green salsa, that will take care of most of it. Three small bowls of tomatillos salted, first step for salsa as of 10:30 a.m. 

The fastest will be do deal with the mail. There’s not a lot hanging around, as I tend to do it as soon as it comes in the door. What I do have is the backlog from days gone by. . . .

Here’s Thursdays’ new five, well four. (There’s a reason this isn’t a cheat, but I’m not going to explain just now.)

  1. Clear/clean a dish cabinet shelf Friday 9:40 a.m.
  2. Clear/clean a freezer shelf  Done! 9:40 a.m.
  3. Work on the house notebook
  4. Clear/clean a silverware tray or drawer Friday 9:50 a.m.

Hopefully, this will give me a chance to get maybe one more of the back items finished.

My experience earlier this week has affected how I designated today’s work. Instead of mandating that I clean the dish cabinet, I’ve limited it to one shelf. Same with the freezer and silverware trays/drawers. Hopefully, this will cut the chore time to the 15 minutes or less it’s supposed to be, instead of starting chores which require hours to finish, as I did at the beginning of the week!

That said, this is farm day. The farm is 1.75 hours away. The work there takes about 2 hours, and it’s 1.75 hours back. In other words, farm day from start to finish (the cloth bags I use are in the laundry now) takes about 8 hours: prepping, transportation, food gather and storage. And of course, none of it includes cleaning shelves, drawers or working on a notebook!

So, I expect to be even more behind, even with only 4 items to do tonight, because farm day wipes me out.

Other news: the book rack sold — hurrah! On the not so great side: they’re working on the street in front of the antique store, my sales will be accordingly much smaller — rats!
